Agios (Saint) Alexandros

Agios (Saint) Alexandros

Saint Alexander’s chapel is considered to be relatively newly built. The church’s design itself tends to be in a more ‘Cycladic’ style than most traditional Skiathos’ churches. For example, the whole landscape could easily be confused as being a part of Santorini’s territory rather than of Skiathos’.

The chapel’s architecture is a magnificent combination of both straight and curved structures. The outside walls are embellished with traditional signs. Its two porches, one on the side and one on top of the church, offer visitors an astonishingly unforgettable view of Pelion and of Kastro (Castle). Since the church’s entrance is usually locked, most visitors try to get a glimpse of its interior majesty by closely looking through the door and windows: the low altarpiece, decorated with mosaic icons, as well as mural paintings of Saints such as St. Nikolaos and the Transfiguration of Jesus Christ.
