As one of Greece’s most famous beaches, Koukounaries Beach has received many awards for being one of the most beautiful in the world. It is also referred to as “golden sand”, as it shines and seems golden in the sunlight.
With its blue crystal clear waters and the pines of the adjacent Koukounaries forest almost reaching the sea, nature creates an exotic, enchanting landscape of unique beauty.
The forest of Koukounaries separates the beach from Lake Strofilia. This area is the habitat for hundreds of plants and animals, mainly birds, protected by a European Union nature protection program.
At the east end, the emblematic Skiathos Palace Hotel rises in its prominent position. All along its almost 800 meters, Koukounaries Beach offers sun loungers, beach bars, water sports and a diving school. On the east side, there is a small marina with a picturesque bridge. Here, various excursion ships are moored, ready to transport people to and from the city of Skiathos, as well as other areas. The beach is ideal for families with small children, thanks to its very shallow waters, in combination with the soft sand, making little visitors love it. Besides toilet facilities and changing cabins, a special ramp has been installed to provide easy access to the water for guests with special needs. Koukounaries is located 13km southwest of the city of Skiathos and is reachable by bus (stops 22,23,26), car and tourist boats. A 10 minute walk to either entry point will take you to a choice of S / M, restaurants and bars, and of course, a variety of accommodations. Koukounaries is an idyllic location at its natural best.
