Agios Charalambos Monastery

Agios Charalambos Monastery is located on the steep, northeastern slope of Skiathos, approximately 5 km from the center. Though the exact date of its construction is unknown, it is known to have been renovated in 1809, while the icons and its wood-carved iconostasis date from 1822.                                                                                                      

You will encounter a landscape of unparalleled beauty when you reach Agios Charalambos Monastery on Skiathos island. Take in the stunning views overlooking its neighboring islands, Lechouni beach and the endless blue Aegean, as far as the eye can see.

A further worthwhile attraction is the chapel of Agios Athanasios of Athonitis, located inside the Agios Charalambos Monastery, next to the cells used by the monks from Mount Athos, who had settled here many years ago.

The impressive icon of Agios Athanasios of Athonitis has been one of the most valued monastery’s treasures for many years.

Thanks to Skiathos locals, Mr. Vassilis Kantarakias and Mr. Giannis Agiomamitis, the monastery garden flowers and grounds are tended to and kept beautifully cultivated and pristine, much to the enchantment of all monastery visitors.

Writer and cousin of novelist Alexandros Papadiamantis Alexandros Moraitidis, lived the last years of his life at the Monastery of Agios Charalambos, as a monk, under the name Andronikos.

The annual celebration of Agios Charalambos takes place on February 10th.
