Agios Georgios (Saint George)

St. George Legend At a distance of 1 km from the port of Skiathos and a few meters after the carnagio we can visit the church of Agios Georgios. It is built on a beautiful land with stunning views, on 1871.

It is said by the elders that according the tradition around 1870 George Kopsidakis while sleeping in his field saw in his dream Saint George who complained that he wanted to leave the Castle of Bourtzi because he had experienced many battles at that point and wanted to move somewhere more far pointed the spot is locate today, also indicating the small size of the Church he desires. The poor farmer went to the authorities of the island and was asking for help about his dream and everyone instead of help him started laughing on him . Then, when the Saint appeared in his sleep again, the farmer told him that he could not find a response to make his wish come true from the authorities. Then Saint George told him, start and I will help you. Without wasting time, mr Kopsidakis the farmer went to the spot and with steps he measured the size that the Saint had told him that he wanted the church and began to dig with the help of the workers of the adjacent yard. While digging, gold coins were suddenly found and the small Temple we admire today was completed.
